They're taking away my site!

I know I don't update, but that doesn't matter to me. I liked having my website up and available to everything anyway. It was a monument to the furthest I've ever gone in developing a website and will ever go.

They're not really taking my website away, just how it's updated. I got an email yesterday stating that blogger.com will no longer allow FTP hosting. That means I won't be able to host this website on my home server. I don't have the tools or the knowledge to upload or create uploading tools that will update and archive automatically.

If the website itself was all I had on my home server this wouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately, I also use thegrogster.com for remote connections, ftp and hosting game servers. I could probably use website redirection from my home server to my blogger site, but it makes me sad seeing "thegrogster.blogger.com" instead of "thegrogster.com" or "hardware.thegrogster.com".

Will I ever get over it? I don't really have much of a choice. March 26th is the day they plan on shutting down FTP updating.

What does this mean for thegrogster.com? It means my website will be hosted elsewhere and will no longer be in total control by me. I might just end up learning Drupal or Wordpress for a blog. It is about time I took another shot at web development again for the sake of knowledge. My brain hasn't been exercised in quite some time. Being a strictly hardware technician, I run into the same problems on a daily basis and end up working far too efficiently. I certainly need to branch off into other aspects of the computer world.

Take that spam!

I've been getting an insane amount of spam in my inbox about shitty hit boosters to increase the 10 cents I've made off this website in the year or so it's been active. Thankfully I have moderated comments on because this website would be LOADED with spam comments as well.

... I wondered why I'd been getting so many hits after I only touch this website once a month on average now.

I'm going to give everyone a little pointer to make you a little better at using your computer.
If you don't know what's going on, READ WHAT'S ON THE SCREEN BEFORE YOU CLICK NEXT!

It's frustrating to see so many people remaining blissfully ignorant about computers in saying they don't know much about them when simply reading something would have prevented catastrophic data loss on their end. When in doubt GOOGLE WHAT YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT!

Ladies and Gentlemen

I know I said I'd be back. That was August. Then I never updated.
Well for the time being I've been playing the games I want to get done when I have the time. The front page of Couch Athletics is doing just fine. However, we do need more news posters. Right now it's a one man show for the news (me) and then the articles and editorials done by the rest of the staff.

There is a massive amount of content up there now so check it out if you haven't already.
Also, don't forget to sign up on the forums to compete in the Left 4 Dead 2 Scavenger Hunt.
It's far more fun than I'd realized.

Until next time,
Greg

Well that didn't take long

The demise of the Couch Athletics E-Zine has given me new drive to push thegrogster.com again.

Our layout artist quit leaving me high and dry, but it is good news for the community.
Now the reviews (minus fancy layout work) will be displayed on the front page more frequently than a lump of games three months old every quarter.

We had trouble with news and a lack of editorials so this is probably the better idea.
If you know a layout artist willing to work for free I would like to talk to them, updating once or twice a week.

Like All

Like almost all websites on the internet, one must fall. This happens to be one of those.

The responsibilities of keeping the ezine staff in check (not really that hard, they do the work themselves) and making sure everything is going smoothly in my life have overshadowed what I can do on this website.

I knew this day would come. Since it's taking up almost no resources I'll leave the website up as a reminder of what I accomplished for over a year. If I remember correctly, I started this and kept it going since February 2008.

I didn't get many fans, but then again, I didn't do anything to separate me from the rest of the gaming websites.

In closing, I link you to the following websites for CouchAthletics.com
Couch Athletics - The greatest gaming community on the internet
Couch Athletics Couchcast - Something I helped create. I don't talk much, but what I say is usually important.
Couch Athletics Quarterly ezine - My greatest achievement as a writer and a help to the community. Thanks to all the staff, especially MelonCat for all the hard work and the very professional layout.

Oops

Apparently I forgot to turn the server back online after a power failure.. I no longer have it hooked up to my battery backup because I just don't care about it anymore. :P

no wonder

I wondered why my laptop computer was stupidly slow at loading even the most basic of operating systems..
Turns out the hard drive was only 4200RPM. Damn cheap shit.

So I figured I'd look into either getting a new SSD for it or just a 7200RPM laptop drive..
Right now newegg has a 64GB SSD for $130.. I'm conflicted.
I mean, 64GB SSD @ $130+tax/shipping vs. 320GB Seagate Momentum @ $79+same.

I think I like spending money too much.
I need to go lie down.
